After three fires and 21 fingertip injuries, Walmart is recalling 255,000 GE food processors that have not one but two hazards. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has received 58 reports of the processor operating without the lid secured or of the unit smoking, posing both laceration and fire hazards.
Made in China, the 14-cup GE-branded processors were sold from September 2009 through February for $50. The problem with model #169203 is that the safety interlock system can fail, allowing the unit to operate without the lid, which has resulted in 21 fingertip injuries. In addition, the unit can emit smoke or catch fire, resulting in 34 reports of smoking and three fires.
Walmart and the CPSC are asking consumers to stop using the processors and return them for a full refund. For more information, contact Walmart Customer Service at (877) 207-0923 or visit the Walmart website.
The GE 169203 was included in our latest food processor tests where it was only good at slicing, shredding and chopping and poor at pureeing. Only one food processor scored worse in our tests.
