"Harry Potter" creator J.K. Rowling announced in a video today that her new website, Pottermore, will be the exclusive seller of e-books and audio books of the bestselling series when it launches in October.
It will be the first time that the series based on the boy wizard will be available in digital form. The series has sold more than 450 million copies in print.
Rowling described Pottermore as an "online reading experience unlike any other," where fans will help shape an online reading experience built around the seven books.
Rowling said she will also participate and will be sharing information she's been "hoarding for years" about "Harry Potter." She has written more than 18,000 words of new material for the website, which will be a mix of computer games, social networking, and an online store, according to CBS News.
Fans can submit their e-mail addresses on the website for the chance to be one of the one million chosen to receive early access on July 31—Harry Potter's birthday. It is unclear whether the e-books and audio books will be available to those fans on July 31.
Until today, the site was largely a mystery to fans, with the words "Coming Soon" being accompanied by a countdown clock.
