    Sound Byte: Are buy-back programs worthwhile?

    Recently, some electronics retailers have begun to offer buy-back programs: When you purchase a new device, you also pay for the privilege of selling back your device to the store within a specified time period. While these programs may make sense for certain consumers--say, early adopters who upgrade to the latest gadget frequently--buy-back programs may not be such a good deal for other consumers.

    On last week's "Into Tomorrow with Dave Graveline" radio show, Consumer Reports Web associate editor Carol Mangis explained the pros and cons of these types of programs, and what a consumer's alternatives could be. Check out our Sound Byte podcast for the scoop.
