Tesla Motors releases production Model S photos, Fisker updates Karma release

Consumer Reports News: June 06, 2011 05:08 PM

News has been charging out of California on the luxury electric-car front: Tesla Motors, the maker of the $100,000 all-electric sports car, has released the first pictures of the production version of its upcoming Model S, all-electric sedan.

The production car has more and larger air intakes in the front fascia for brake and electronics cooling. The "S" is supposed to have a 300-mile range with its most expensive battery offering, which would cost about $88,000. The Model S will be offered with smaller, less-expensive battery packs good for a 200-mile and 100-mile range, saving $10,000 and $20,000, respectively.

Meanwhile, Tesla announced it has stopped production of its original Roadster sports car, because Lotus, an English supplier, has stopped producing the "glider" chassis for Tesla.
