Time Warner Inc. began broadcasting CNN and HLN over the web on Monday as part of its "TV Everywhere" campaign, which aims to provide more viewing options for cable subscribers.

The cable-news channels will be simulcast online for viewing by people who subscribe to participating pay-TV distributors, including Comcast, Cox, AT&T, DISH Network, and Verizon.

Update: When our researchers tried to use the CNN Live app for the iPad, they discovered that Verizon was not listed as a carrier. A Verizon spokesperson said the CNN Live app was made available to the company on Monday, and they are working to integrate it with the FiOS TV system as soon as possible. Verizon is listed as a carrier on the CNN Video website.

One carrier that's absent from the list is Time Warner Cable, which is no longer part of Time Warner, despite sharing a name.

Viewers will be able to go to the CNN Video website, where they can log in with their subscriber information to access the live streams of CNN and HLN. The channels are also available on Apple's iPad and iPhone, and Time Warner said the service will be available on other mobile devices and tablet operating systems in the future.

The idea of the "TV Everywhere" initiative is to keep viewers subscribed to paid services by offering more flexibility and viewing choices. Time Warner has already been offering the HBO Go service to subscribers of certain pay TV services, such as DirecTV.

Offering content online isn't always simple, though—some media companies have been battling with TV providers over the right to offer content on tablets and other mobile devices. Viacom sued Time Warner Cable in April over content being offered on the iPad.
