A software upgrade glitch may be leaving millions of subscribers on AT&T's wireless network in New York City with botched cell phone service this morning. Mobile phones on the AT&T system cannot make outgoing calls, while incoming calls go straight into voicemail.
An AT&T service representative told the local NBC station that the problem appears to be limited to the New York City area and affects mainly voice-call service with cell phones. Short message service (texting) and e-mail on smart phones appear unaffected.
The AT&T rep did not say how soon the wireless glitches could be corrected.
