New service from big player to rival Ticketmaster-Live Nation monopoly

Consumer Reports News: August 24, 2011 12:38 PM

Concert promoter AEG Live is taking steps to establish a new ticket-selling service for concerts and other live events that could rival the industry-dominating duo of Ticketmaster and Live Nation. The new service is called Axs Ticketing.

Ticketmaster and concert promoter Live Nation merged last year. After Live Nation, AEG is the second largest concert promoter in the world, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The new Axs Ticketing service will sell its first tickets to shows at AEG-owned theaters in Colorado later this month. This will be followed in the near future by tickets for concerts in San Francisco. The plan is to add some 100 venues by the end of 2012, starting with domestic theaters and then moving on to include venues around the globe.

In addition to listing tickets on its own website, Axs Ticketing will also sell tickets on venue websites.
