Target recalls an additional 341,000 stools for fall hazard

An additional 341,000 step stools that collapse under the weight of the user are being recalled said the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Target Corp. of Minneapolis, Minn. today. The announcement is an expansion of an earlier recall of 206,000 Target stools with a similar defective issue.

As with the stools identified in the Aug. 4 recall, these stools have lids to cover a built-in storage area. The newly-identified stools in this recall suffer the same defect: An unexpected collapse during use and thereby poses a risk of injury to the user.

The expanded recall involves three additional colors—White, Pink and Blue—of the stools sold under the Do Your Room Brand. The defective stools were sold nationwide at Target retail outlets as well as online at Target.com for about $25 to $30 from January 2007 to August 2009.

Including the step stool models from the previous recall, the following Target stools are affected:

Consumers should check underneath the step stools for labels which will identify its brand and UPC code. If they have identified their stool as part of this expanded recall, consumers are urged to stop using them and return the defective stools to any Target rtail outlet for a full refund.
