At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Fisker debuted a new station wagon body style for its Karma plug-in hybrid. The Karma Surf features an extended roofline that enables 12.7 cubic feet of trunk space (or 29 with both rear seats folded). While it does add versatility to the premium hybrid, the cargo space is more like that found in a small car than an SUV.
For drivers needing more storage, there are also roof rails for securing cargo—although the resulting aerodynamic drag would somewhat negate the car's green benefits. Further, cargo on top could shadow the standard solar panel. On the Karma sedan, Fisker says its 120-watt solar panel can extend range by 200 miles a year. With its larger roof, the Surf has room for a 133-watt panel.
Fisker hasn't said anything about pricing, but the Surf will reportedly be the second Karma model when it goes on sale next summer. The Sunset convertible will follow.
