The new iPad-like touch screens arriving in MTA subway stations across New York City are called On the Go! Travel Stations. The touch screens will have information on delays and track changes, as well as details about repairs and other events that can change service schedules.
If effective, the new screens could be a good way to get pertinent schedule and travel information to commuters and tourists alike.
New York City Transit and electronics manufacturer Cisco are installing the 47-inch On the Go! Travel Stations at major transit hubs before rolling them out across the five boroughs. Stations slated to get the screens first include Penn Station, Grand Central Terminal, and Atlantic Ave–Pacific Street in Brooklyn, among others. The first was unveiled this morning at the Bowling Green station in Manhattan, according to the New York Daily News.
The On the Go! Travel Stations will also offer information useful to tourists and other travelers unfamiliar with a given borough or the city at large, such as tips on where to shop and eat and how best to get there.
