No, Facebook will not be charging you for membership

A new hoax on the social networking site has been making the viral rounds, in the form of status updates that warn that because of the "new profile changes," you'll soon have to pay for membership. To encourage users to spread the message, the hoax updates claim that if you copy and post them on your own wall, you won't have to pay the new rates.

Facebook has denied this; on the sign-in page is a message from the company stating that the service is "free and always will be." ZDNet points out that the Facebook will make $4.27 billion this year, and that 89 percent of that is from ads.

Below are the two messages. Oh, and please don't post them on your wall.

FACEBOOK JUST RELEASED THEIR PRICE GRID FOR MEMBERSHIP. $9.99 PER MONTH FOR GOLD MEMBER SERVICES, $6.99 PER MONTH FOR SILVER MEMBER SERVICES, $3.99 PER MONTH FOR BRONZE MEMBER SERVICES, FREE IF YOU COPY AND PASTE THIS MESSAGE BEFORE MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. WHEN YOU SIGN ON TOMORROW MORNING YOU WILL BE PROMPTED FOR PAYMENT INFOIT IS OFFICIAL IT WAS EVEN ON THE NEWS. FACEBOOK WILL START CHARGING DUE TO THE NEW PROFILE CHANGES
