Kia has announced pricing for the all new Rio compact car will start at $13,600 for the five-door hatchback and $14,700 for the sedan with automatic transmission. These prices are below the previous generation and do not include a $750 destination and handling fee.
The Rio will be offered in three trims: LX, EX, and SX. The top-of-the-line SX will start at under $18,000 and includes 17-inch wheels, sportier suspension, LED lights, fog lamps, and voice-activated infotainment system with 4.3-inch touch-screen display and rear backup camera.
The Rio will be powered by a 138-hp, 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Fuel economy is EPA-rated 29 mpg city/39 highway for the hatchback and 30 city/40 highway for the sedan. The fuel economy is aided by the stop/start engine technology, which shuts off the engine when the car is stopped for longer than a few seconds.
We'll be purchasing the new Rio once it goes on sale in the coming weeks and compare it to the other new subcompacts in the market such as the Chevrolet Sonic, Hyundai Accent, and Nissan Versa.
Check out our initial driving impressions in the video of the Rio below.
