The traditional mission of Consumer Reports is to report on products and services that are right for you, with advice on getting the smartest deals. "You can spend $2,000 for a vacuum cleaner and still get lousy performance—that's the wild thing," he told WGHP in Greensboro, North Carolina. "Performance is not necessarily commensurate with price." Bob went on to detail how upright models we've recommended range from $50 and $100 to relatively quiet Mieles selling for as much as $880. Our canister picks start at $250.
Vacuum cleaners are part of Consumer Reports' continuous-testing program, which adds new models to our online Ratings several times a year.
