Recall: 45,000 Keds girls' sneakers—laceration hazard

Consumer Reports News: November 16, 2011 06:08 PM

Collective Brands of Topeka, Kan., has recalled about 45,000 of its Keds "Know It All" girls' shoes, because the ornamental stars on the heels of the shoe can loosen, posing a laceration hazard, the Consumer Product Safety Commission reported today.

Collective Brands has received 27 reports of cuts and scratches resulting from metal stars that loosened from the heel of the shoe.

The recalled shoes were sold for about $23 at various department stores and online retailers, from June through October 2011. The Keds have rubber soles, and are black and pink with white trim, and a pink loop on the heel. "KEDS" is printed on the tongue and heel of the shoe, and style number KY40098A is on the underside of the tongue. The shoes were sold in girls' sizes 5 to 12.
