Although Amazon is not revealing the exact number of Kindle sales for December, the company did announce that for each week this month, it sold over 1 million Kindle devices.
The 2011 holiday season marked the best yet for sales of the tablet and two e-readers in the Kindle family.
During the holiday season, the Kindle Fire tablet was the top selling product listed on the Amazon website, and was also reported to be the most wished for product in Amazon's lineup since it was unveiled, according to the company. The Kindle Touch was the second top selling product on the Amazon website, with the regular Kindle in third.
Amazon also announced that December 25 was the biggest day for e-book downloads, and that giving e-books as gifts was up 175 percent this year compared to 2010. This is in keeping with the gadget-themed holiday that many seemed to have this year. News outlets have also been reporting record-breaking numbers for both iOS and Android device activations during the 2011 holiday season. Analytics firm Flurry reported that on Christmas Day alone some 6.8 million iOS and Android devices were activated.
