The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a recall of 2010-2011 Cadillac SRX sport-utility vehicles for improperly installed transmission shift cables. The problem, which affects 8,789 SRX models, may prevent drivers from shifting the Cadillac SUV into or out of "Park" and possibly cause a collision.
According to NHTSA, the problem affects SRX models made by General Motors from October 2008 through June 2011. Drivers of the vehicles may experience difficulty in shifting the SRX's automatic transmission out of "park" because the cable has come out of its bracket. The SRX's shifter may also erroneously indicate the SUV is in "park" when it isn't. In those cases, the SRX may roll away and cause a crash.
In January, GM will notify affected Cadillac SRX owners to bring their recalled SUVs to local dealerships. Mechanics there will inspect the transmission shift cable to ensure its proper installation free of charge.
