Microsoft today released SkyDrive apps for both Windows Phone and Apple iOS devices. The company stated that it wants its SkyDrive users to be able to access their content no matter which devices they're using.
SkyDrive is the company's already-existing cloud-computing solution: It lets you store your digital content—photos, video, music, files, and so on—online and access them from any Web connection.
In a blog post, Microsoft's Mike Torres emphasized the development of SkyDrive specifically for mobile use:
With the recent release of Windows Phone 7.5 ("Mango"), we focused on deeply integrating SkyDrive into the phone itself through the Pictures and Office hubs. For instance, you can share photos stored on SkyDrive by email, text, or IM, use Office apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with SkyDrive files, and even keep your phone's camera roll up-to-date on SkyDrive automatically.
SkyDrive users can download the new apps now: SkyDrive for Windows Phone and SkyDrive for iPhone. And if you have a anyone with a Windows Live ID, you get 25GB of SkyDrive storage at no charge.
Is a SkyDrive app for Android users imminent? No word on that, as yet, from Microsoft.
