The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall alert for 2011 Nissan Rogue vehicles. Approximately 7,365 of the cars have incorrectly installed electronics that may cause failure of the crossover vehicles' electric power steering systems.

According to NHTSA, the affected Rogue crossover vehicles were manufactured from August 2010 to October 2010. During production, the electric power steering (EPS) circuit board was installed improperly, which may place additional strain on the board's soldered electronic connections. If the solder breaks and the circuit board fails, the sudden loss of power steering assistance could increase the risk of a collision.

This month, Nissan is expected to begin notifying customers affected by this safety recall of 2011 Rogue vehicles. Owners will be instructed to bring their vehicle to local dealerships where mechanics will replace the EPS control unit for free.

For more information, consumers can contact Nissan (toll-free: 800-647-7261) or visit the NHTSA's website: www.SaferCar.gov.
