The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall alert for Pampered Chef ice cream dippers made by the Zeroll Company of Fort Pierce, Fla. The liquid-filled ice cream scoopers, when exposed to warm water, have caps and seals that can "fly off with substantial force" from the ends of their handles and pose an "impact injury hazard" to consumers nearby, said the CPSC.
According to the safety agency, the Pampered Chef distributor has received 16 reports from consumers of the flawed ice cream dippers damaging nearby kitchen items. Six report of injuries, including cuts, bruises and redness caused by caps flying off the ends of the handles, were also received by the Pampered Chef.
The recalled Pampered Chef ice cream scoopers are seven-inch long utensils made of grey aluminum with a plastic dome-shaped cap on the base of the handle. "Pampered Chef" is imprinted on the cap and the handle is filled with a non-toxic liquid which conducts body heat from the hand to the handle, making the ice cream easier to scoop.
The recall affects about 20,000 Pampered Chef ice cream dippers, sold online at PamperedChef.com and by Pampered Chef consultants for about $15 from July to September 2010.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ice cream dippers and contact The Pampered Chef (toll-free: 877 917-2433 e-mail: ProductAlert 'at' PamperedChef.com) for a refund or a replacement.
