The new version of Google Map Maker lets you submit updates, edits, or other changes to a map—and once it's approved, you'll see your additions on the live Google map.
The new and improved map-making tool will "help users map the places they know best and make their hometowns sparkle," Kaushik Sridharan, writes on Google's Lat Long Blog. The revamped mapping tool is also reportedly easier to use, especially for those new to the service.
With the redesign, you can add currently unmarked hiking or biking trails, rivers, or ball fields, and update existing buildings and landmarks by drawing your addition directly on a map. In this way, Google can rely on your map updates to essentially crowd-source its maps. The upgrade means you also see your mapping contributions on Google Earth as well as in Google Maps and Google Maps for mobile.
Google also recently announced another feature related to its mapping service: Indoor-mapping for Google Maps for Mobile, which lets you see the floor plans for buildings such as airports and shopping malls that partner with Google.
