In advance of the Consumer Electronics Show (which starts next Monday, January 9), Fujifilm has announced a slew of new models. Nearly all of the new cameras offer greater resolution (14 or 16 megapixels), sport longer zooms, and can capture HD-resolution video. They range in price from $90 to $800.
Here are some of the more notable models:
The 12-megapixel FinePix X-S1, $800, is an advanced model that's the third X-series camera (along with the X100 and X10) and Fujifilm's first superzoom (26x) in this class. It includes a 3-inch tilting display and a high-resolution electronic viewfinder, and can shoot 7 frames per second at full resolution and capture 1080p HD-resolution video at 30 fps. The X-31 also includes a hot shoe for an external flash, can capture RAW files, and has many manual features and settings. It will be available this month.
The FinePix F770EXR, $380 (pictured), is one of three F-series models that come with the company's special EXR sensor, which can adapt to the subject. This 16-megapixel model also includes a GPS feature, which lets you geotag photos. Although it's sleek, compact, and stylishly designed, the F770EXR includes some powerful features, such as a 20x zoom and the ability to capture RAW files. Look for it to ship in March.
The 14-megapixel FinePix XP150, $280, is one of three rugged models Fujifilm announced. Besides its 5x optical, non-telescoping lens and 2.7-inch LCD, Fujifilm claims that the XP150 is waterproof to a depth of 33 feet, shockproof to withstand a 6 1/2-foot fall), and freeze-proof and dust-proof. It also has a very stylish, almost bold body design, can geotag photos, and can shoot HD-resolution video at 1080p (at 30fps). It goes on sale in March.
Finally, the low-priced FinePix AX550 ,$90, has a 5x zoom (26mm-130mm) and 16-megapixel resolution, and uses AA batteries. It has a 2.7-inch display and can capture HD-resolution video at 720p (at 30 fps). It will be available in March.
All the other new models will be available either in the winter or early spring.
