CES 2012: TomTom unveils three new lines of GPS navigators

Consumer Reports News: January 10, 2012 12:23 PM

At the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today, TomTom introduced three new model lines of GPS navigators. The new line-up of personal navigation devices are designed to simplify consumer choices—especially with the exploding growth of smart phones with GPS capabilities and wireless connections.

Each new model line from TomTom is designed with a different type of user in mind.

    1. Start: The "entry-level" Start line offers A-to-B navigation and access to the maps database, as well as lane guidance and spoken street names. And the product line offers new features for an entry-level TomTom line, such as access to fuel prices, plus other features.

    2. VIA: The "mid-range" VIA line is described by TomTom as a good personal navigation device for a multi-tasking parent because of features like Bluetooth hands-free calling, voice recognition, and advanced lane guidance, plus other features.

    3. GO LIVE: The GO LIVE line is faster, according to TomTom, and offers all the features of the VIA. It also has access to connected, LIVE Services and TomTom HD Traffic and Travel Apps. Users can read restaurant reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor, find hotel availability with Expedia, or automatically tweet their arrival time. Users also have access to live fuel prices, weather forecasts, and local search, plus other features.
