Samsung's new Galaxy Note smart phone has the mother of all screens, a 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED touch screen (1280x800 resolution). Samsung says the display has a 180-degree viewing angle, a plus when two or more people want to share what's on the humongous display.
The 4G LTE phone, which will be available from AT&T later this year for an undisclosed price, was announced back in September as a hybrid phone/tablet.
This "pocketable" smart phone measures a seam-busting 5.78 x 3.27 x 0.38 inches and weighs a hefty 6.3 ounces, awkward to hold up to your face for a phone conversation. So most users will probably prefer using the speaker or a headset.
When you're not talking or browsing the Web, you can use the Note's S Pen stylus to jot down memos or tinker with photos. There's also a memo app that lets you combine all of your pictures, voice recordings, texts, and S Pen scribbles into a single file for easy sharing with others. And the 2500 mAh battery should provide enough juice to keep the phone running for a day on a single charge.
The Galaxy Note comes with 1.5GHz dual core processor, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and 16GB of storage, expandable up to 32GB via its microSD card slot.
It runs the creaky Android 2.3 operating system, but there's no official word yet from Samsung on whether there's an upgrade path to the latest version of Android, 4.0.
