CES 2012: Westinghouse bows 70-inch LCD, first passive 3D TV

Consumer Reports News: January 10, 2012 10:23 AM

For its 2012 TV lineup, Westinghouse Digital has decided to go big and stylish with a 70-inch LED-backlit LCD—its largest set yet—plus a 46-inch LCD TV that sports a new ultra-slim bezel design

The company is also showing off its first passive 3D TVs, plus a new Bluetooth soundbar speaker system.

Both the 70-inch UW70-series model and the 55-inch EW55-series set are 1080p LCD TVs with edge LED backlights and 120Hz technology. Joining the TVs will be the similarly featured UW46-series set, which is the first model using the company's new ultra-slim bezel design.

There are also two new midrange models: the 40-inch EW40, a 1080p LCD with 120Hz technology, and a 32-inch 720p set, the EW32. Among the smaller sized sets that can double as PC monitors are the 24-inch EW24 and 22-inch EW22, both 1080 LCD TVs. The 19-inch EW19 is a 720p set.

    3D Model
Westinghouse is also at CES showing off its first 3D TV, the W47S2TCD, which uses passive 3D technology. Westinghouse says the TV—a 1080p model that will come with four sets of polarized glasses—will bring 3D consumers at a more reasonable price.

For more budget-conscious TV buyers, the company will also have four new LCDs that use conventional CCFL (fluorescent) backlights. The CW50 (50 inches), CW39 (39 inches) and CW37 (37-inches) are all 1080p sets, while the 32-inch CW32 is a 720p LCD TV.

For those looking to pump up their TV's sound, Westinghouse debuted a new wireless soundbar speaker—the WSB-N20BW—that uses Bluetooth technology. The speaker has an integrated class D stereo amplifier that can send 12 watts of power to each channel.
