Nissan North America is recalling more than 23,500 of its 2011 and 2012 model year Nissan Quest minivans. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there is a software problem with the recalled minivans' fuel systems that could cause the vehicles to stall, increasing the risk of a collision.
NHTSA warns Nissan Quest minivan drivers that while driving at slow speeds or idling on a decline with a fuel tank less than one-quarter full, the minivan may stall. The safety agency says a software programming error in the fuel pump control module of the Nissan Quest minivans, made from July 2010 to February 2012, is at fault.
Nissan will begin to notify affected customers in mid-March. Owners of the recalled Nissan minivans will be instructed to bring their Quest vehicles to a local dealership where mechanics will reprogram the fuel pump module, free of charge.
