Thinking of lighting up Mother's Day with the new Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight? Order soon, says Barnes & Noble, due to "larger than expected" advance orders for the new e-book reader, which costs $139 and has an illuminated screen for night-time reading.
The company says it will begin shipping the new Nook this week, ahead of schedule, to those who have already pre-ordered the device; shipments will continue through the month. Due to "very strong pre-order demand," says B&N, it recommends ordering immediately if you want the best shot at getting a new Nook by Mother's Day, May 13.
Orders can be placed either at the Nook website or in Barnes & Noble stores. Pre-orders aside, the company expects only limited quantities of the Nook with GlowLight to be available in its stores starting in early May.
The new Nook closely resembles the Nook Simple Touch, but with an added row of LED lights along the top of the E Ink screen that can be turned on when you're reading at night, as our video shows. Based on my early look at the device, I expect the Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight will score similarly to the regular Simple Touch in our e-book reader Ratings (available to subscribers) We expect to complete tests on the GlowLight version and post it to the Ratings soon.
