American Honda Motors is recalling its new 2012 Honda Civic sedans, warned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). More than 50,000 of the Honda cars have improperly installed driveshafts, which may separate and cause the Civics to fail to shift into any gear. Further, a parked Civic may roll away if the car's manual parking brake is not engaged, says NHTSA.
Last year, the 2012 Honda Civic was also recalled for leaky fuel lines due to misplaced O-rings during production. As with that recall, no injuries have been currently reported with the manufacturing snafu involving the Civics' driveshafts.
Around June 21, Honda will begin notifying Civic owners affected by this recall to bring their sedans into local dealerships. Mechanics there will inspect and, if needed, replace the car's driveshaft for free.
