Other Membership Benefits:
If, like me, you're an Amazon Prime member who's been underwhelmed by the service's streaming video offerings, there's some good news. The company just reached a deal with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios that will add hundreds of classic movies and TV shows to its catalog.
This MGM deal comes on the heels of Amazon's announcement that the Amazon Cloud Player App for iPhone and iPod Touch is now available on the App Store, enabling users of those devices to stream or download music stored in Cloud Player.
Amazon says the licensing deal with MGM means hundreds of TV shows and movies will be added throughout 2012 to Prime Instant Video, which is free to those who already pay $79 per year for the Amazon Prime free-shipping membership. Amazon Prime Instant Video is available on a number of devices, including some TVs and Blu-ray players, add-on boxes such as Roku, Amazon's Kindle Fire e-reader, and Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3 videogame systems.
Amazon Prime Instant Video is a subset of the company's larger Amazon Instant Video streaming and download service. The company claims Prime members have access to 18,000 movies and TV episodes, while the full Instant Video service offers 120,000 tiles to stream or download. Prime members have unlimited access to the available titles at no additional cost.
