Apple today introduced its newest line of MacBook Pro laptops, including a 15-inch model that measures just 0.71 inches thick—a quarter inch thinner than the current model—weighs just under 4.5 pounds, and includes a Retina display with a resolution of 2880x1800.
The new display contains 5 million pixels and should be comparable in quality to the new iPad's screen. Apple says apps including iPhoto, Safari, iMovie, and e-mail have already been updated to take advantage of the new display.
Another notable feature of the new MacBook Pro is the solid-state drive, which will be available with as much as 768GB of storage. The laptop also includes only two USB 3 ports, two Thunderbolt ports, and an HDMI port [added info]. Apple claims the new MacBook Pro will get 7 hours of battery life (the current model got 8.5 hours in our tests).
You'll be able to purchase the new MacBook Pro with up to 16GB of memory and a quad-core i7 processor. The base model starts at $2,200 with a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 8GB of memory, and 256GB of flash storage. It ships today.
The company also updated its other MacBook Pro laptops, as well as the MacBook Air.
