Black & Decker Spacemaker coffee makers are being recalled by its distributor, Applica Consumer Products Inc. of Miramar, Fla. According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, the handles for the under-the-cabinet coffee brewer's pots may break during use and possibly cut or burn consumers with hot coffee.
According to the CPSC, the company has received 1,276 reports of broken carafe handles from the Black & Decker coffee makers. Of those reports, 68 incidents involved consumers receiving burns and/or cuts during use of the pots with the recalled Black & Decker Spacemaker 12-Cup Programmable Under-the-Cabinet Coffeemaker.
About 159,000 of the under-the-cabinet machines were sold in the U.S. Another 16,429 of the programmable coffee machines were sold in Canada in the same period.

Consumers with these recalled Black & Decker coffee maker models are urged to stop use immediately and call ACP toll-free (866-708-7846) to arrange for a free coffee pot exchange.
