Apple today announced a revamp to its iTunes content-management software that will streamline its look and more easily allow access to content stored on Apple's iCloud service via iTunes.
Available in October (no specific date was announced), the new iTunes promises to make browsing more intuitive, Apple says, by allowing you to see only the type of content you're interested in at that time. And when you select a music album, for example, you'll be able to see all the songs, click Play, and then continue to browse without returning to the entire library. There's also a new UpNext feature that allows you to queue a particular song to play next, or last.
The popup MiniPlayer has also been further reduced in size. And in the new iTunes, you can use the Player to search without opening your entire library.
Some new enhancements will better serve people who listen via iTunes on multiple devices, and offline: iCloud now allows you to access content from any device, but the updated iTunes will allow content bought on any device to appear in the library on all devices. And you'll be able to easily make content mobile with a new Download button that lets you bring your library with you.
