Q&A: Is image burn-in a worry with new plasma TVs?

Q: You've said that image burn-in is not an issue with the newer plasma TV models during normal viewing. Does that include tuning to a music channel for long periods of time? The onscreen info on those channels doesn't change that often.--Marvin Shuman Randolph, NJ

A: Normal viewing is a mix of television programming over time so that no fixed single image is sitting on the TV screen for hours or days on end. If you're watching an image with a fixed graphic, you may see a subtle dimming of the display in the area of the fixed image, but permanent damage would probably result only from months of that kind of use. Plasmas usually have a feature you can activate that helps minimize burn-in, so check the owner's manual.
