The Chevrolet Equinox gets a late-life freshening, spiffing up the exterior, adding a safety features, and introducing new trim levels. (Read our latest Chevrolet Equinox road test.)
The 2016 Equinox is visually distinguished with chrome grille accents, 17- and 18-inch aluminum wheels, a new license plate surround, and chrome exhaust tips on V6 models. Projector beam headlights are standard, and LT and LTZ models get new LED headlights. Trim levels now include L, LS, LT, and LTZ models, in place of LS, 1LT, and 2LTs.
Interiors get a new shifter with a range selector on top and a chrome surround. The new dashboard center stack incorporates a seven-inch MyLink touchscreen radio on LT and LTZ trims to let you stream digital audio files and interact with the navigation system. A rearview camera is standard starting on LS models. A new bin improves storage space.
On the safety front, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are now available, as well as forward-collision and lane-departure warnings.
It is surprising to see the extensive suite of content updates to the Equinox so late in its model cycle, but these offerings should add appeal at a time when competitors are likewise touting such high-tech features.
The 2016 Equinox goes on sale in the fall.
