VIDEO The Canon VIXIA HF G20 takes very good video, higher quality than most high-definition models. Pictures were sharp, which means you can see most details and subtle patterns in the image. In low-light situations, the video was very good: fairly bright, only slightly soft and grainy.
AUDIO It captures good audio in stereo. However, the camcorder will pick up some of the sound of the zoom in the audio.
PHOTO QUALITY Capture still photos with good image quality.
LENS This camcorder has a standard 10x optical zoom lens. The lens has a bright f/1.8 aperture (at its maximum), which gives you a shallower depth of field for producing more professional looking portraits and images.
IMAGE STABILIZER Shooting in well-lit scenes, this model did a very good job of minimizing the effects of camcorder shake.
SPEED In terms of performance, the Canon VIXIA HF G20 powers up in a moderate amount of time. It's fast at switching to video mode, better than most models. It's also fast at waking up from standby mode, which is also better than most models.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS It has an electronic viewfinder, which is a rare for camcorders. This viewfinder has excellent quality. It has a large 3.5-inch LCD, which has excellent quality that lets you very easily compose your shots and has superb playback of photos and video. It has a hot shoe for attaching an external lamp, flash or directional microphone (generally sold separately). This high-definition model is bigger and somewhat heavier than most camcorders in its class.
