Design and features:The earphones have an integrated microphone and touch sensitive volume, music player, and call connect/disconnect controls for paired Bluetooth devices. Additional features include a monitor function that makes ambient sounds easier to hear while wearing the earphones, support for digital voice assistants such as Apple Siri when used with Bluetooth devices that have those capabilities, and manufacturer claimed water resistance. The Sonic Sport ATH-Sport7TW comes with five pairs of ear pieces in various sizes and types, four pairs of removable ear bowl supports, a USB charging cable, and a charging cradle/recharger battery/carrying case that the manufacturer claims can be used to recharge the earphone batteries up to four times between its own charges. The free Audio Technica Connect app download for Apple or Android mobile devices shows battery level, can be used to change various settings such as adjusting the ambient sound level of the monitor function, change the function of the touch controls, and help locate the earphones if they are misplaced.
Sound quality: We found the Sonic Sport ATH-Sport7TW delivers sound quality that falls in the Very Good range - it reproduces music and voice very well although it does have some noticeable sonic quirks. The overall sound can be summarized as bassy and a bit hazy. The bass (as in bass drums, bass guitars, stand-up bass, etc.) has good impact and goes deep, but is prominent and boomy. The midrange (voices, guitars, horns, etc.) is fairly even, but while it is slightly hazy and grainy and generally a touch soft, the upper midrange is slightly etched (a bit more sharply outlined then it should be). The treble (cymbals, the upper range of violins, etc.) is fairly extended. This model does a good job of recovering the room ambience of a recording (the sense of the acoustic space in which the audio program that's being listened to was recorded). The sound also has a good sense of liveliness and is somewhat open--sound-wise it almost seems like you don't have anything plugging up your ears.
Comfort: As typical of in-ear models they produce a sense of pressure in the ear canal opening that might be uncomfortable for some. Users with small ear bowls might find that the earphone body does not fit securely into their earbowl and that the earphones are mostly held in place by the section of the earphone that is inserted in the ear canal; with this particular model if the ear bowls are not sealed properly the sound quality is affected and the bass sounds subdued. Users with medium and larger sized ear bowls will probably find that this model fits and stays in place with no problems and is very stable even during vigorous head movement. When wearing this model while walking some users may hear the vibrations from each foot step very distinctly through the earphones.
