COST OF OWNERSHIP AND TONER. When this section was last updated, the printer's purchase price was about $200, typical for an all-in-one black and white laser printer. Printing uses up toner. Over time, as you print, the costs add up. This printer uses one cartridge. The HP toner cartridge used in testing was the 17A. At the time, its price was $66. We estimate the toner cartridge to last a very long time — 4 years — following a typical printing schedule. After 2 years of typical use, we estimate the total equivalent cost to be $237, typical for a mono laser. The estimated yearly cost is $19, high for this printer type. So the 3-, 4- and 5-year estimates are $256, $275 and $294 respectively.
