Sound quality: In the Movie sound setting Edifier's CineSound B3 Sound bar delivers sound quality that falls in the good range - it reproduces music and dialog reasonably well despite the obvious shortcomings in its sound. The bass has good impact, but lacks some detail and doesn't go deep. The midrange is fairly even, but is a bit hazy and grainy. The treble is fairly extended, but somewhat smeared. The CineSound B3 doesn't do a good job of recovering room ambience (the sense of the acoustic space in which the music was recorded). In the News sound setting the bass becomes subdued but is otherwise similar to the Movie sound setting. In the 3D sound setting the bass and treble become very prominent while the midrange becomes subdued and far away sounding - the bass also becomes very boomy and may distort with some program material; while the sound field becomes wider than when in the Movie setting it is not as tall and doesn't get any deeper. There was no significant difference in sound quality between the optical, coaxial, and analog inputs; while the Bluetooth input sounds similar it is noticeably grainy. The soundbar might produced a low volume high-pitched whining sound if it is switched to a digital input that's either not connected or that's connected to a source device that's turned off. This model can provide satisfying volume in a medium sized room.
