Sound quality: Insignia's NS-HTSB22 has Fair overall sound quality. When using the HDMI input in Standard sound mode, the bass has decent impact, but is slightly subdued and deep bass is lacking. Midrange is plasticky, hazy, somewhat nasal and harsh. Treble is fairly extended, but is somewhat subdued and smeared. Doesn't do a good job of recovering room ambience, and sounds congested. The various sound modes have a noticeable effect on the sound field and tonal balance. With multi-channel program material the sound field is a bit wider and taller, but there still isn't much depth. The various sound modes have a noticeable effect on the tonal balance, but not much effect on the sound field. There is no significant difference in sound quality between the HDMI, optical, USB and Bluetooth inputs. The aux input sounds louder and bassier than the other inputs at the same volume and bass settings, but it can be adjusted to sound similar by reducing the volume and bass settings. The system can provide satisfying volume in a medium sized room.
