Sound quality: Klipsch's Cinema 400 has Good overall sound quality. When using the HDMI input the bass has good impact and goes fairly deep, but is boomy and slightly prominent. Midrange is fairly even, but slightly congested, and somewhat hazy and grainy. Treble is fairly extended, but is a touch subdued, somewhat smeared and slightly sizzly. Does a decent job of recovering room ambience, but sounds slightly congested. The two channel sound field extends a bit above the top but not beyond the sides of the speaker array, and lacks depth. The various sound modes have a noticeable effect on the sound field and/or tonal balance. With multi-channel program material the sound field extends somewhat above the top and a bit beyond the sides of the speaker array, but there still isn't much depth. The various sound modes have a noticeable effect on the tonal balance. There is no significant difference in sound quality in the midrange and treble between the HDMI, optical, aux and Bluetooth inputs, but the bass level of the optical and Bluetooth inputs is notiably higher than the HDMI and aux inputs at the same subwoofer setting. The level of the optical and Bluetooth inputs can be made to match the other inputs, but it would require changing the subwoofer level each time the inputs are changed. When the inputs are switched or the soundbar is unmuted, the subwoofer sometimes starts playing first and the sound from the sound bar is delayed.
