Sound quality: Samsung's HW-KM36 delivers sound quality that falls in the good range - it reproduces music and dialog reasonably well despite obvious shortcomings. The bass has good impact, but is a bit pronounced, somewhat tubby, and doesn't go deep. The midrange is fairly even, but is slightly soft, hazy, grainy and constricted, and a bit overwhelmed by the bass. The treble is extended, but sizzly and a bit thin and prominent. This model does a so-so job of recovering room ambience (the sense of the acoustic space in which the music was recorded) and sounds somewhat congested. The Sound Effect settings all had a noticeable effect ranging from softening the sound to making it echoey and/or nasal. The Surround Sound On setting did not seem to have much of an effect. There was no significant difference in sound quality between the analog, optical, Bluetooth, and USB inputs. The sound bar can provide satisfying volume in a medium sized room.
