Sound quality: TCL's Alto 8+ delivers sound quality that fall in the Good range. The bass has decent impact, is somewhat tuby, and deepest bass is lacking. Midrange is somewhat nasal, grainy, and congested, and a bit hazy and echoey. Treble is fairly extended, but is a touch prominent, somewhat dry and papery (like two pieces of paper rubbing together), and a bit smeared. Does a so-so job of recovering room ambience, sounds somewhat congested, and the echoey quality of the midrange can further obscure the natural room ambience. With stereo program material sound field extends a bit above and not much beyond the width of the speaker array, and lacks front to back depth. The various sound mode settings did not have a noticable effect on the sound. With Dolby digital multi-channel program material the sound image may extend somewhat past past the sides and above the soundbar, but still lacks depth. The various sound mode settings did not have a noticable effect on the sound. There was no significant difference in sound quality between the HDMI, optical, USB, and Bluetooth inputs; WiFi streaming inputs may sound a bit thin, and more grainy, hazy, and echoey. The system can provide satisfying volume in a medium sized room.
