Sound quality:
Vizio's M213AD-K8 has Good overall sound quality - this model reproduces music and dialog reasonably well despite the obvious shortcomings in its sound. In the Direct sound mode with the tone controls set to provide the most even tonal balance the bass has good impact and goes deep, but is somewhat prominent and boomy and a bit tubby. Midrange is fairly even, but is somewhat hazy and a bit grainy. Treble is fairly extended but is a bit prominent and smeared and somewhat sizzly. Does a decent job of recovering room ambience but the overall sound is a bit congested. With stereo program material two channel sound field extends somewhat above and a bit beyond the sides of the speaker array, but lacks depth. Depending on the sound mode, the other sound modes have a minimal to significant effect on the sound field and/or tonal balance and/or volume level.
There was no significant difference in sound quality between the HDMI, Optical, Aux, USB and Bluetooth inputs.
The system can provide satisfying volume in a medium sized room.
Multichannel
With multi-channel material the sound field is noticeably wider and taller with than with stereo program material. Depending on the sound mode, the other sound modes have a minimal to significant effect on the sound field and/or tonal balance and/or volume level. When playing Dolby Atmos program material the width and height of the sound field can extend wider and higher than with multi-channel program material.
Sound Modes
The various sound modes have a noticeable but slight effect.
DTS:X
When playing DTS:X material, the width and height of the sound field is about the same as heard with multi-channel program material.
Sound Modes
Depending on the sound mode, the other sound modes have a minimal effect on the sound field and/or tonal balance and/or volume level.
