Target's Best and Worst Black Friday TV Deals

The bargains include TVs from Samsung, LG, TCL, and other major names, as well as models from smaller brands

    TVs at Target STEPHEN YANG

For 2019, Black Friday TV deals at Target are similar to the company's offerings in years past. The retailer emphasizes inexpensive and moderately priced sets.

For example, in 2019 two aggressive doorbuster specials are a 50-inch Westinghouse 4K smart TV for just $150, and a 65-inch Element 4K Roku TV for just $280.

Target usually includes at least one super-low price on a smaller set from a secondary brand, and that's true for 2019, as well. This year it's a 32-inch 720p Polaroid TV for just $70. That's $10 less than last year's deal on a similar Polaroid set.

    Even Target’s priciest TV—a 65-inch Samsung 4K smart TV—is just $600.

Target's holiday deals will roll out over several weeks. They start with a two-day Preview Sale on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9. Then, additional deals launch on Saturday, Nov. 16, and continue through Sunday, Dec. 15.

    MORE ON TVS & DEALS

In addition to those longer-running offers, a bunch of deals are being reserved for Black Friday and the couple of days leading up to it.

Target RedCard credit or debit cardholders and members of the company's Target Circle loyalty program can start getting the Black Friday deals on Wednesday, Nov. 27, the day before Thanksgiving. (Whenever they buy, RedCard shoppers get added 5 percent discounts.)

Special Black Friday deals start Thanksgiving morning on Target.com for everyone else, but in-store shoppers have to wait until 5:00 p.m. that night for doorbuster specials, which will run until the stores close eight exhausting hours later, at 1:00 a.m. on Friday. Then the doors will reopen at 7 a.m. on Black Friday morning.

Below, we've picked out Target's most notable TV deals, based on CR's extensive TV ratings (open to members) combined with the prices we're seeing at other retailers. However, Target makes things very tough for comparison shopping by not publicizing the model numbers of the TVs it puts on sale. So these are our best, educated guesses on what's being discounted.

    Smaller TVs

    32-Inch Polaroid 720p TV
    The deal: $70 at Target
No model is given but we think it's the Polaroid 32GSR3000FC, a basic model that usually sells for about $130 usually. Polaroid TVs haven't typically done well in our tests.

    40-Inch TCL 1080p Roku TV
    The deal: $170 at Target
    CR's test results: TCL 43S325
Based on the 1080p resolution we believe it's the 43-inch model, which normally sells for $200, but it could be the TCL 43S525, which is also around that price at several retailers.

    40-Inch Vizio 4K smart TV
    The deal: $200 at Target
    CR's test results: Vizio V405-G9
We found a Vizio model, the Vizio V405-G9, selling for about $240 on the Target website, and elsewhere. It's an entry-level V series for 2019.

    43-Inch LG 4K smart TV
    The deal: $300 at Target
    CR's test results: LG 43UM7300PUA
We're not sure which model is going on sale, since there are a few new LG model numbers we're seeing this time of year. Our best guess based on the price is the LG 43UM7300PUA, which is selling at Walmart for about $350. That would make this a decent discount.

    43-Inch TCL 4K Roku TV
    The deal: $220 at Target
    CR's test results: TCL 43S425
This could be the TCL 43S425, in the company's entry-level 4K series, which performs just okay in CR's tests. If it is this model, you'll only save about $10, since its selling for around $230 right now at Target and several other retailers.

    43-Inch Samsung 4K smart TV
    The deal: $220 at Target
    CR's test results: Samsung UN43NU6900
We know this set is the Samsung UN43NU6900, an entry-level Samsung TV from 2018. It usually sells for about $280, so this is a decent savings. It was $280 just a couple months ago during Labor Day TV sales.

    Midsized TVs

    49-Inch LG 4K Smart TV
    The deal: $270 at Target
    CR's test results: LG 49UM6900PUA
We think it's the LG 49UM6900PUA, which usually sells for about $300 at Target and elsewhere. It's an entry-level 4K set with decent picture quality, but ineffective HDR performance.

50-Inch Westinghouse 4K Roku smart TV
    The deal: $150 at Target
This is a tough one; Target doesn't have the model listed on the one 50-inch Westinghouse TV it carries, and there's no other info to go on. Our best guess is that it's the Westinghouse WR55UX4019; if so, BJ's has it for about $350. But given the very low price, it could be a special buy on another set made just for this sale.

50-Inch Philips 4K Roku smart TV
    The deal: $180 at Target
    CR's test results: Philips 50PFL5703
Our guess is the Philips 50PFL5703, a 2018 set that's selling for $215 at Target right now. If so, it sold for about $250 last year, during Target's 2018 Black Friday sales.

    50-Inch Samsung 4K smart TV
    The deal: $350 at Target
    CR's test results: Samsung UN50RU7100.
This set is already at this price right now at Target and elsewhere. This is a 2019 entry-level 4K that did decently, if not exceptionally well, in our tests.

50-Inch TCL 4K Roku smart TV
    The deal:
    $250 at Target
    CR's test results: TCL 50S425
Our best guess is that this set is the TCL 50S425, which is selling at Target, as well as Amazon and Best Buy, for about $280 right now.

    50-Inch Samsung 4K smart TV
    The deal: $280 at Target
    CR's test results: Samsung UN50NU6900
We know this model is the Samsung UN50NU6900, an entry-level model from 2018. It usually sells for about $330. The picture quality is admirable in a set priced this low, for both HD and ultra-HD content. But the HDR performance is subpar.

55-Inch TCL 4K Roku smart TV
    The deal:
    $280 at Target
Our best guess on a model is the TCL 55S425, which is selling at Target, as well as Best Buy and Walmart, for about $300 right now.

    55-Inch Samsung 4K smart TV
    The deal: $330 at Target
    CR's test results: Samsung UN55NU6900
This is another known set, the Samsung UN55NU6900, in the same entry-level series for 2018 as the $280 set listed above. It's $380 just about everywhere now, and in most respects it has decent performance.

    Larger TVs

    60-Inch LG 4K smart TV
    The deal: $430 at Target
    CR's test results: LG 60UM6900PUA
If we've guessed right about the model, then Target and most other retailers, are selling this LG for about $500 right now. It's in the same LG entry-level set we've seen in other screen sizes.

65-Inch Element 4K Roku smart TV
    The deal: $280 at Target
Given its super-low price for its size, this appears to be some kind of special buy; we don't see a 65-inch 4K Roku model at this low a price anywhere. Our best guess is that it's the Element E4SW6518RKU, which was on sale earlier this year for about $450. If it is this set, it did well for HD picture quality, but was below par for 4K and HDR performance.

65-Inch TCL 4K Roku smart TV
    The deal: $400 at Target
If this is the larger size in TCL's S425 series, also listed above, it's about $450 right now at Target, as well as at Best Buy and Walmart.

    65-Inch Samsung 4K smart TV
    The deal: $480 at Target
    CR's test results: Samsung UN65NU6900
Yet another model in Samsung's entry-level 4K series for 2018. It's selling for $550 at Target, as well as at Best Buy and Walmart.

    65-Inch Samsung 65 4K smart TV
    The deal: $600 at Target
    CR's test results: Samsung UN65RU7100
We know that this is the Samsung UN65RU7100, an entry-level 4K set from Samsung's 2019 lineup. This isn't much of a deal, though, since it's at this price at Target, and elsewhere, right now.

    65-Inch LG 4K smart TV
    The deal: $480 at Target
    CR's test results: LG 65UM6900PUA
We're guessing this is in the same MU6900 series as the 60-inch LG listed higher up. If so, the sale price is only about $20 cheaper than the price the set is going for right now. The performance is so-so, about what you might expect for a 65-inch set priced this low.
