Sound quality: JBL's Flip 7 had acceptable overall sound quality - this model reproduces music and dialog reasonably well despite the obvious shortcomings in its sound. Bass has good impact, but is a bit prominent, somewhat boomy and deep bass is lacking. Midrange is fairly even, but is somewhat hazy, congested and grainy and a touch sibilant. Treble is fairly extended, but is a bit subdued and slightly smeared. This model had so-so recovery of room ambience and sounds somewhat congested. The speaker is monophonic and the sound field extends somewhat above and to the sides of the speaker enclosure and lacks depth. Individual instruments and voices are identifiable and have a two dimensional quality. Two units can be combined to form a stereo pair where the sound stage can be made wider depending on placement.
Volume:
Provides a decent volume level in a medium sized room, but can sound strained at higher volumes.
