Sound quality: In the Music sound mode Pyle's Wave Base (PSBV600BT) delivers sound quality that falls in the fair range, meaning that it has sonic shortcomings that leave a lot to be desired when listening to music but don't rule it out for dialog. Bass is a mixed bag: it has good impact yet sounds blunted, is a bit prominent, and the deepest bass is lacking. Midrange is nasal, and a bit grainy, and has a noticeable plastic resonance. Treble is extended, but is sizzly and prominent. Doesn't do a good job of recovering room ambience (the sense of the acoustic space in which the music was recorded), is congested, and lacks fine detail and complexity. The movie mode makes the sound "wider" but also makes the bass boomy and more prominent. The sound base can provide satisfying volume in a medium sized room.
TV setup and ease of use: Good overall. Setup: The soundbase comes with an analog cable for TV connection; an optical cable must be purchased separately if you want or need to connect your TV that way. Ease of Use: The remote is somewhat unorganized - power and source buttons are in fairly clearly separate groupings, but volume, mute, and DSP (digital sound processing, labeled "EQ") controls are not. The console's power, source, and volume controls are adequately identified and easy to access; although the console lacks a mute button it can be unmuted by pressing one of the volume controls. The display shows power status and is clearly visible and understandable from arms length away. The source display consists of labeled indicator lights, there is a visual indication when muting has been engaged and when the volume is being adjusted, but there is no volume level indication. The DSP effects mode indicator is a pattern of lights that require the instructions to decode.
