A s a nutritionist and food policy expert, I know how challenging deciphering food labels can be. 

That’s because a lot of label claims—such as “natural,” “no cholesterol,” and “healthy”—either don’t have much meaning behind them or distract from the more important nutritional qualities of the foods you buy. While no label can tell the whole story about a food, these do have meaning and can help you eat better.
