    E-Ride City Mid-Drive
For the price, the Hyper E-Ride City Mid-Drive has a lot going for it. It’s comfortable to ride, and it offers stable handling and decent power for acceleration and hill-climbing. It’s also easy to pedal without electric power, making unassisted cruising and hill-climbing a relative breeze. Best of all, its mid-drive motor—which is mounted at the pedal crank—provides instant response when the motor is engaged. Many other bikes in this price range come with a hub-mounted motor, which tends to kick in after you start pedaling and cut out after you’ve stopped. A mid-drive motor routes power through the bicycle’s gearing, which enables more efficient use of the battery charge. The E-Ride City comes with a large, easy-to-see LCD display, fenders, and a rear luggage rack for groceries and other items. Its major drawbacks, however, are its gearing and brakes. The disc brakes stop the bike adequately, but they’re cable-operated, which means performance will diminish over time as the cables stretch requiring routine adjustments. A lot of other similar e-bikes come with hydraulic brakes, which require less maintenance and typically provide stronger stopping power. And although the bike’s 7-speed gear cassette is adequate for most riding, this model could use another gear or two for more pedal power riding downhill.
