    For a bike with cable-operated brakes and a hub-mounted electric motor that only has three levels of assist, this model has a steep price tag. That said, at about 34 pounds it is on the light side for an e-bike, and is relatively easy to pedal without the electric motor engaged. Although its battery range is decent, the Salsa doesn’t offer strong acceleration, and the three levels of e-assist—indicated by an LED ring around the power button that changes color—don’t feel like they’re doing much to help while cruising. The riding position is upright, and decently comfortable. There is no handlebar-mounted display showing speed and battery level, but an associated smartphone app provides information such as speed and distance. There are five different frame sizes available. It’s worth noting that the cable-operating brake system is outdated. It stops the bike, but many similarly-priced bikes come with hydraulic brakes that don’t need to be adjusted as often.
