    The 65-pound Scott Sub Active eRIDE 20 is a beefy bike, and perhaps because of that, offers a smooth, stable ride. It also has a front suspension that takes a lot of the harshness out of rough road surfaces. Aesthetically, the eRIDE20 resembles the hundreds of thickset rental bikes lined up at pay racks in cities all over the U.S. The riding position is upright and relaxed, and there’s a fat, cushy seat to soak up any remaining vibrations that weren’t weeded out by the damped front fork. The crank-mounted Bosch electric motor provides plenty of force through four power levels for cruising on flat ground and climbing modest hills. More leg power is required on steeper grades, and the bike pedals well with the electric assist turned off. Hydraulic disc brakes stop the bike quickly. The black and white LCD display is easy to see.
