    T1
Quick and relatively light, the T1 combines the best of conventional bike capability with powerful assistance from its hub-mounted electric motor, as well as easy pedaling through its eight-speed gear cassette. In short, it’s a good value for the money. There are five e-assist levels that provide assistance up to different speed levels. The motor pulls smoothly for both flat cruising and climbing hills, but the T1 is also easy to pedal without the e-assist feature turned on. The seating position is upright and comfortable, but the ride is harsh, with the bike’s stiff frame transmitting jolts from road imperfections directly into the rider’s body. Riders with larger feet might find the pedals a bit too small as well. There is no built-in display, but an associated smartphone app provides information such as speed and power level on the user’s phone, which is needed to turn on the bike anyway. Unfortunately, you’ll have to pay extra for something to mount your phone to the handlebars if you want to use it as a display screen while you’re riding. (Our test bike didn’t have any such gear, so testers could only guess at speed and battery life while underway.) Fortunately, if the phone is in your pocket while you’re riding, the power button changes color to indicate e-assist level, and a handy sticker on the top tube explains what the colors mean. The T1 also has a built-in front light that turns on automatically when it gets dark out. Hydraulic disc brakes provide confidence-inspiring stopping power.
